Simmons Sets National High School 5000m Record in Oregon

On Sunday (9-June), at the Portland Track Festival in Portland, OR, Daniel Simmons of American Fork finished eighth in the 5000m setting a new U.S. high school record. His time of 13:25.86 broke the previous record of 13:34.96 set last year by Lex Young of California by over 9 seconds.

Simmons now holds both the indoor and outdoor 5000m records. Earlier this year he broke the indoor record by over 18 seconds stopping the clock at 13:38.86.

Simmons has annoucned he will matriculate to BYU this fall.
