Halladay, Rooks, Fisher Earn Tokyo Team USA Spots at USATF Championships in Oregon
Results
Twenty Utah athletes competed on the national stage at the
2025 USATF Outdoor Championships
, held July 31–August 3 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The meet also served as the qualifying event for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, with the top three finishers in each event earning a spot on Team USA.
Leading the way for Utah were
Lexy Halladay
and
Kenneth Rooks
, who both captured national titles in the 3000m steeplechase. Halladay won the women’s final in 9:09.14, while Rooks, competing for NIKE, claimed the men’s title in 8:26.58. Rooks will look to build on his success from last summer, when he won the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in the steeplechase. Both Halladay and Rooks secured their places on Team USA for Tokyo.
Grant Fisher
(NIKE) also earned his way back to the global stage, collecting silver medals in both the 5000m (13:26.75) and 10,000m (29:02.37) in Eugene. Fisher is coming off an outstanding Olympic campaign in Paris, where he won bronze medals in both the 5000m and 10,000m. His runner-up finishes in Eugene ensure another chance to compete among the world’s best this September.
Several other Utah athletes turned in strong national-level performances.
Kelsi Oldroyd
placed fourth in the javelin (55.32m),
Meghan Hunter
finished fifth in the 800m (2:00.53), and
Courtney Wayment
(On) placed sixth in the steeplechase (9:17.94). In the men’s 10,000m,
Casey Clinger
(Brooks) finished sixth in 29:18.74.
Additional top-10 finishes came from
Reno Tuufuli
in the discus throw (7th, 62.18m),
Ella Donaghu
(NIKE) in the women’s 5000m (8th, 15:22.15), and
Ajia Hughes
in the high jump (8th, 1.80m).
Utah’s deep roster also included athletes competing in the 1500m, 400m, discus, and other middle-distance events, further demonstrating the state’s growing presence on the national and international track & field stage.
With three athletes securing Team USA berths in Eugene, and
Clayton Young
of Provo already named to the team in the marathon, Utah will be well represented when the World Championships take place this September in Tokyo.
